Irondale's Robotics Team to compete at state championship

May 1, 2012 -- Irondale High Schools FIRST Robotics Team 2052 qualified to compete in the inaugural Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Championship on May 19 at the University of Minnesota's Williams Arena. Team 2052 earned the second-highest number of MSHSL qualifying points.

Team 2052 Qualified for Inaugural MSHSL State Championship

Irondale’s FIRST Robotics Team 2052, will be in the inaugural Minnesota State High School League Championship.

Team 2052 earned the second-highest number of MSHSL qualifying points.

The first-ever state tournament is May 19, 2012, at the University of Minnesota's Williams Arena.

Irondale High School's Robotics Team 2052, KnightKrawler, achieved successes at two FIRST regional competitions in March: second place at the Lake Superior Regional at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center March 8-10 and semi-finalists at the 10,000 Lakes Regional March 29-31 at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota Campus.

The team also earned design awards at both competitions, and co-captain Caleb Sykes was named a FIRST dean's list finalist. Caleb will go on to compete for a place on the list with other finalists at the FIRST Championships.

Co-captain Caleb Sykes a FIRST Dean's List Finalist at 10,000 Lakes Regional

Co-captain Caleb Sykes was recognized as one of just two FIRST Dean’s List Finalists at the 10,000 Lakes Regional. The Dean’s List honors FIRST student superstars and celebrates outstanding student leaders whose passion for and effectiveness at attaining FIRST ideals is exemplary. Caleb will go on to compete for a place on the FIRST Dean’s List with other Finalists at the FIRST Championships.

KnightKrawler Takes Fourth at 10,000 Lakes Regional

Team 2052, continued the 2012 competition season earning awards and a fourth place finish at the 10,000 Lakes Regional in Minneapolis at Williams Arena. Competition judges awarded them the INNOVATION IN CONTROL AWARD sponsored by Rockwell Automation, this award celebrates an innovative control system or application of control components (electrical, mechanical or software) to provide unique machine functions. Team 2052 went 8-1 through nine qualification matches, earning the overall fourth seed out of 65 teams. The first seed invited the KnightKrawler's to join their alliance, advancing to the semi-finals. They played two close matches in the semi-final rounds with the highest match scores of the week end. First semi-final match was score was 70 – 74, the second match score was 70 – 83.

The Irondale FIRST Robotics Team & Knightkrawler Robot will be featured on the the 6 p.m. news TONIGHT (March 29th)on Channel 5 (KSTP)! Tomorrow, the team will be competing in the 10,000 Lakes Regional competition at the U of M Williams Arena! Good Luck!

See the 10,000 Lakes

Tomorrow team 2052 heads off to the 10,000 Lakes Regional at the U of M. Competition matches start on Friday and go on through Saturday. Finals will be Saturday afternoon. If you want to watch you can catch the live stream here, courtesy of the Fighting Calculators, team 2175, or come on down to the Williams Arena down by the U and see it for yourself. The competition will also be broadcasted on CTV on Saturday, from 1 to 4. Members who plan on being there for Thursday, report to Irondale at 7am tomorrow morning. Good luck to all teams competing this weekend!

KnightKrawler Takes Second in Duluth!

This last Saturday the team took second at the Lake Superior Regional in Duluth, MN. By the end of prelims KnightKrawler was ranked second with 24 seeding points, and an impressive 132 hybrid points. The team went undefeated all the way through the prelims. After prelims at alliance selection, KnightKrawler invited team 2220, Blue Twilight, and 2826, Wave Robotics for our alliance members. We went undefeated all the way the quarter-finals and semi-finals, knocking out the seventh and sixth seeded alliances. However, in the final round, KnightKrawler's alliance was beat two times in a row by the number one seeded alliance. Scores were 38 to 19, and 66 to 32. Our congratulations go out to teams 2169, 3018, and 1714! Great job in the final round, and good luck at nationals.
