FIRST is inspiring students attitudes, interest, participation and innovation in engineering, science, and technology while building self-confidence.
In the Beginning...
FIRST was founded in 1989 by the renowned inventor Dean Kamen. The aim of FIRST is to inspire students to careers in math, science, and technology through a fun and engaging robotics competition. It provides students with the ability to meet one-on-one with industry leaders and engineers.
The initial FIRST Robotics Competition was comprised of 28 teams competing in a New Hampshire high school gymnasium. The ensuing years brought rapid growth to the program to include over 60,000 students in 2,400 teams from 7 countries all competing at 100+ qualifying and championship tournaments. The season culminates with the World Championship Event in St. Louis, Missouri

Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
