KnightKrawler Standard Response Protocol

Last Updated: January 2026

These are procedures to be used for full-team safety measures in alignment with Mounds View Public Schools’ Standard Response Protocol. These are distinct from participant responsibilities/equipment safety/etc. as described in the 2052 Safety Manual, though review of these procedures is required by all team members (with frequent review highly recommended).

As of 1/13/26, robotics meetings are considered closed practices and are not open to the public. Any visitors to the meeting must be communicated in advance to Dahsol Lee (team advisor) and are subject to team and Irondale administrative review.

HOLD

(in room/area; clear hallways)

Directions

(from Standard Response Protocol)
Students…

  • Clear hallways
  • Remain in room/area until “all clear”
  • Do business as usual - lights on, voices on

Adults (Mentors)…

  • Close/lock door(s)
  • Account for students/adults - alert Ms. Lee if there are any missing, extra, or injured.
  • Do business as usual - lights on, voices on

Robotics/Space-specific Directions

Ensure that all doors are locked before they are propped open. If a hold is called, all doors can simply be closed.

LL43: ensure all hallway-facing doors AND the locker room door is closed and locked.

CAD Lab: ensure hallway-facing door AND the door to the wood shop are both closed and locked.

Cafeteria: ensure both hallway-facing entrance doors are closed and locked.

Other classrooms: ensure all hallway-facing doors are closed and locked.

Subteam mentors will account for students present/missing using the attendance sheet and report to Ms. Lee (walkie or slack).

SECURE

(get inside, lock exterior doors)

Directions

Students…

  • Return to inside of building - no one else in/out until “all clear”
  • Do business as usual

Adults (Mentors)…

  • Bring everyone indoors
  • Lock outside doors
  • Increase situational awareness
  • Account for students and adults - Alert Ms. Lee if there are any missing, extra, or injured.
  • Do business as usual

Robotics/Space-specific Directions

Ms. Lee’s fob for exterior doors works for Door 29 and the front door only.

Students may not be in the front entrance vestibule at this time.

Students should be in groups with mentors in case this escalates to a hold or other procedure.

LOCKDOWN

(locks, lights, out of sight)

Directions

Students…

  • Clear the hallway to go to the nearest locked space.
  • Move away from sight (windows, including windows on doors)
  • Maintain silence
  • Do not open the door

Adults (Mentors)…

  • Recover students from hallway if possible
  • Lock all doors
  • Turn off all lights
  • Move away from sight
  • Maintain silence
  • Do not open the door
  • Prepare to evade or defend

Robotics/Space-specific Directions

Ensure that all doors are locked before they are propped open. If a lockdown is called, all doors can simply be closed.

Ms. Lee will call 911. Then, Activities Director Quan and district admin will be alerted by Ms. Lee.

EVACUATE

(leave building)

Directions

Students…

  • Leave stuff behind if required to
  • If possible, bring your phone
  • Follow adult instructions

Adults (Mentors)…

  • Shut off lights and close doors
  • Lead students to evacuation location
  • Account for students and adults
  • Alert Ms. Lee if there are missing, extra, or injured students or adults

Robotics/Space-specific Directions

All team members should leave from the nearest exit to meet at the football field entrance.

If this side of the building is not accessible, the team will meet in the parking lot outside Door 5 (Long Lake Road, between the church and main parking lot)

Subteam mentors will account for students present/missing using the attendance sheet and report to Ms. Lee (walkie or slack).

Nearest exits:

  • LL43 (Gym), LL30 (Health): Exit the building through Door 29
  • LL23 (CAD Lab), LL17, LL19, LL22: Exit the building through Door 20
  • Cafeteria: exterior doors in cafeteria area/loading dock

SHELTER

Tornado: evacuate to the shelter area

Hazmat: follow community guidance; no hazmat materials in the robotics space outside of potential lithium ion battery fire with laptops/tablets/etc., in which case evacuation procedures will be followed

Directions

Students…

  • Follow adult directions to use the appropriate safety strategy for the hazard

Adults (Mentors)…

  • Lead safety strategy
  • Account for students and adults
  • Alert Ms. Lee if there are missing, extra, or injured students or adults.

Robotics/Space-specific Directions

TORNADO:
If upstairs, go to the lower level.
The team will meet in the hallway in front of the LL43 gym space to shelter (avoid doorways; students can be 2-3 wide on either side of the hallway).

  • Students will leave stuff behind, sit down, pull knees to chest, and cover head with hands until the “all clear” is announced.
  • Adult mentors will lead students to the shelter location with walkies and an emergency folder.
  • Subteam mentors will account for students present/missing using the attendance sheet and report to Ms. Lee (walkie or slack).

Other General Safety Practices

(outside of equipment safety or other guidelines covered in the 2052 Safety Manual):

START…

  • Having mentors walk students out at the end of meetings.
  • Having mentors bring emergency folders/walkies when outside of the main gym space.
  • Propping open hallway-facing doors that are locked.
  • Posting signs that robotics meetings are closed practices/closed to the public.
  • Checking in with walking students - is there a possibility for them to carpool with others?

STOP…

  • Propping open exterior doors (utilize the shop phone number or #doorbell slack channel instead).
  • Keeping injuries/machine irregularities to yourself (report to a mentor instead - all injuries - YES EVEN MINOR CUTS - should be reported to Ms. Lee and logged).

CONTINUE…

  • Signing in and out for water/bathroom breaks/etc.
  • Notifying a mentor when leaving early/outside of meeting times.
  • Stocking the first aid kit (thanks, Michelle!!).
